Pasadena Police Officers' Association

The Pasadena Police Officers' Association is the recognized bargaining unit for all Police Officers and Corporals hired by the City of Pasadena. We incorporated in 1979 and are classified under Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(5), as a non-profit.

Our main purpose is two-fold. One purpose is to negotiate the officers' "Memorandum of Understanding" with the City. Our other purpose is to offer legal defense to member officers.

Our main income is provided by member dues and our Annual Benefit Variety Show held at the Pasadena City College Auditorium. Proceeds from this event provide for our annual charitable contributions, which include many local organizations. Since 1990, we have awarded over $45,000 in scholarship funds as a result of our Scholarship Awards Program.

A Message from PPOA President Robert Mercado

It has been over three years since the Pasadena Police Officers Association had a place where we could communicate information to our members. Back then, information was distributed to our members through our printed newsletter “The Informant”. We found that one of the problems with a printed newsletter was that the information that was distributed was not timely, and could be outdated by the time the newsletter was released. We hope that this will all change with this new website and we hope that this will get us on track with keeping our members and the public informed.

Much of this website will be available to the general public, although there will be much more information that will be available only to current P.P.O.A. members. Some of the additional information that will be available to our members will be information about workers compensation, reverse evaluations, contract negotiations, Values Based Discipline and much more. If there are any changes you would like to see, please contact us and let us know what they are so we can improve this site as needed. Also, if you have an article or training information you would like to share with other members, please submit them to us electronically for consideration. We hope to add links to other websites for training and additional information in the future.

One of the links we have added is a Donor link to the main page of the website specifically to thank those people or Companies that have donated to or assisted the PPOA, or its members. The first link in this area is Courtyard Marriott. The Courtyard Marriott assisted the family of Officer Karla Gligorijevic during their time of need by allowing them to stay only minutes away from the hospital. This allowed them to be by Karla’s side for every minute possible. The Courtyard Marriott has been the host hotel for many police related events and has always stepped up with great service. We would like to thank them for being a quality community Hotel.

As we all know, law enforcement as a whole has struggled to hire qualified personnel for the past several years. It has become very competitive to get the best people to choose Pasadena as the place they want to work without lowering our standards. There have been numerous discussions about the staffing shortages during the past few years that have resulted in the reductions in NAT, Traffic and SES sections in an attempt to make adequate staffing in Patrol a priority. We wanted this website to be a place to showcase what Pasadena Police Department has to offer and somewhere you could suggest someone visit if they are interested in joining the Pasadena PD family.

Sincerely,

Robert Mercado, President
Pasadena Police Officers Association
